OpenStack packages

OpenStack packages

Distributions release OpenStack packages as part of the distribution or using other methods because of differing release schedules. Perform these procedures on all nodes.

The set up of OpenStack packages described here needs to be done on all nodes: controller, compute, and Block Storage nodes.

Your hosts must contain the latest versions of base installation packages available for your distribution before proceeding further.

Disable or remove any automatic update services because they can impact your OpenStack environment.

Enable the OpenStack repository

Create the file /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/11amd64-head-xen.conf and put the repository information.

11amd64-head-xen: {
   url: "",
   enabled: yes
# pkg update

Finalize the installation

  1. Upgrade the packages on your host:

    # pkg upgrade
  2. Install the OpenStack client:

    # pkg install py27-python-openstackclient

Additional configuration of operating system

  1. Enable procfs

Edit /etc/fstab and make sure you have the procfs entry

    proc /proc procfs rw 0 0

    Mount procfs

    # mount proc
  2. Enable PF firewall

Create /etc/pf.conf and add following options

    rdr-anchor "org.openstack/*"
    nat-anchor "org.openstack/*"
    anchor "org.openstack/*"

    Restart required services

    # sysrc pf_enable="YES"
    # sysrc pflog_enable="YES"
    # kldload pf
    # kldload pflog
    # service pf restart
    # service pflog restart

    Enable NFS client

    # sysrc nfs_client_enable="YES"
    # service nfsclient restart
